Summary
In a green hydrogen-based energy infrastructure, large quantities of potable water are required with current water electrolysis technology, but these are in limited supply. In PRELUDE (PRozess- und Meerwasser-ELektrolyse für eine
Umweltverträgliche Grüne Wasserstoffwirtschaft in DEutschland), robust components, electrolysis cells and processes are being developed that allow direct electrolysis with sea and process waters. This synergistically combines the production of green hydrogen with the closure of material cycles and avoidance of salt emissions, as well as the synthesis of value-added products.
The PRELUDE approach thus makes an important contribution to the sustainable use of limited water resources and the recycling of process materials.
